You can tell Jurgis is very determined and that he is very caring so, when he said he will work harder I believe him. I believe that he truly will work harder because he wants his wife to have a good and easy life. Although things won't be easy for him working harder is a start to a good solution.

Yes, I believe it is possible to give gifts that aren't actual objects. I think the best gift is to simply show up, congratulate the host(S), and celebrate with them by having fun. Materials are not important like some people claim, as long as you show you care by arriving and having fun which is the whole point of a celebration, that should be enough. That would be enough to make me smile, is a full house of people who are could have been anywhere but they chose to be with me.

Jurgis's maxim, "I will work harder," can be both bad and good. You wouldn't want to work so hard to hurt yourself, but you do need the money. If the money isn't needed right away, then Jurgis should take it slow, because the last thing Ona will want is for him to get hurt. Sometimes when I need to get things done, I do need to work harder. Like finishing a project. I wouldn't want to treat the project lightly, so I would need to work harder to make the project good.

Gifts do not have to be actual presents or money. It's the thought that counts right? Having a wedding should be the happiest moment of your life, and worrying about getting presents or money will just make you stressed. Gifts can be hand made, like food or a chair, just as long as it comes from the heart.

It seems to me that contemporary society is becoming too materialistic.People now a days place a high value on gifts, rather than tradition. When Christmas comes around, many people only care about the presents (i pods, new "kicks"(shoes),games systems). yet, tradition is more important. This is why I would place a higher value on having people attend my wedding, celebrating an important phase of my life, and would not be mad if people can't afford to buy me a present.

Giving a newly wed couple gifts is something that shows your caring and good wishes for them. There are people that take this as just a game and just decide to go to parties for the food and dancing or etc. If I were to have a party or celebration I would at least expect for them to help out with something. I mean I understand that not everyone has money to buy gifts or things of that sort but they could also offer to help out. A gift doesn't necessarily have to be something material, it can also be something that will help out the newly weds or something that they will never forget. The fact that they don't bring gifts to you doesn't mean you're going to die. A gift is optional but it wouldn't hurt to take one.

I think Jurgis's maxim "I will work harder" might help a little but not enough to get what he wants. Working harder is not always the correct way of obtaining what you want. Maybe if he would just work smarter then he would get the same results as he would if he worked hard. For example, one way I learned that working smart is better was when my mom told me to clean my room. She gave me the option of using a broom or the vacum cleaner, of course I used the vacum cleaner because it was faster to complete the job. If I were to have been thinking of just working hard I would have chosen the broom, but I knew the other option was better. But this does not mean that working hard won't pay off. It will if all you need is just a little push to get what you want.

I believe that when Jurgis said "I will work harder" it might cause a problem. My reason for saying this is because sometimes when you work too much we tend to forgot some of the most important things like family. In a way it can be good because it will bring food to the table and it will bring money to pay for the shelter they have or maybe for something else. I believe that when Jurgis said this is because he said it for the good of the two fo them and their future family that they might have later. What he doesn't realize is the consequences that he might bring if he works too much. So really I believe that for him it can work for the good or maybe something else can happen.
